With All on 4 dental implants, we can replace all of the teeth in one or both arches. It’s an alternative to removable dentures or implants that require bone grafting for patients with a low jawbone density. Instead of placing a dental implant for each missing tooth, four implants are angled and surgically implanted in the anterior of the jawbone, where there is more bone density. All on 4® Dental Implants Pros and Cons
Many times, the All-on-4® procedure can be completed in a single day, so you can walk out of our office with a brand new smile. It’s also less expensive and much quicker than implants that require bone grafting. However, bone shrinkage will occur in the posterior of the jaw since implants are only in the anterior. Additionally, if one implant fails, they may all need to be redone. Not everyone is a candidate for the procedure but if you are, Dr. LaVacca has the training and experience in the technique to successfully and safely place the implants and restore your teeth. Treatment Considerations
You’ll visit Naperville Dental Specialists for a consultation where we’ll take a pre-operative CT scan. Dr. LaVaccca will use the images to determine if you’re a candidate for All-on-4®. During the procedure, four dental implants will be surgically implanted in your jawbone and, if you meet the criteria for immediate loading of the implants, we’ll place a temporary prosthesis right away. In the meantime, your permanent dentures will be created based on digital impressions of your mouth. Once we attach them to the implants, you’ll have a new smile that, with proper care, will last a lifetime.
Pre- + Post-Op Care
Dr. LaVacca will give you instructions to follow prior to your surgery. After the procedure, there will be some swelling and bruising around the implant sites. This will subside in a few days. Take any medication as directed to relieve discomfort and hold an ice pack on your face in the implant area for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for the first 24 hours. Be sure to follow Dr. LaVacca’s instructions concerning diet and oral hygiene to facilitate healing. Most patients are able to return to work within a day or two.
