All-on-4 Dental Implants

Another opinion after seeing two Clear Choice dentists?

By Blog, All-on-4 Dental Implants

Clear Choice has a good reputation among several of my colleagues who have received dental implants. I travel quite a bit, so I went to two different Clear Choice locations just to compare the recommendations. Both doctors recommended All-on-4 implants for me, which I prefer not to receive. In each case, when I expressed my preference, I receive a “how dare you have a different opinion” look from the dentist. I am uncomfortable. I was pleased with the service, but I am uncomfortable with All-on-4. My preference is standard implants with bone grafting. Should I trust their judgment, or seek another opinion, perhaps with a dentist who will consider mine? Thomas S.

Thomas – You are likely a good candidate for All-on-4 dental implants, but if you don’t want them, and you prefer and are a candidate for standard implants, the choice is yours.

Another opinion from an experienced implant dentist outside of Clear Choice will help you make a final decision. As you likely know, the All-on-4 process is used to eliminate the need for bone grafting. But if you prefer bone grafting and want standard implants, your preference should be respected, as long as the treatment you want will meet the needs of your case.

We don’t know where you live or work, but you can schedule a consultation with Dr. LaVacca to discuss your concerns. If you want to proceed, he will perform an exam and the necessary diagnostic studies to determine your options. Dr. LaVacca is a board-certified prosthodontist and national and international lecturer. You can have confidence in his opinion.

Surgeons won’t give me all on 4 implants

By All-on-4 Dental Implants

I have been to 3 different implant surgeons and none will give me all on 4 implants. They say I will do better with standard implant. I want the all of 4s. How can I find a surgeon who will do them for me? – Andre

Andre – All-on-4 dental implants are for denture wearers who are in good health. This process allows the implants to be placed if you don’t have a lot of jaw bone density for standard dental implants.

Implant surgeons take a lot of steps to identify your treatment options and ensure the success of your implants. If three surgeons indicated that you are not a candidate for the All-on-4 process, it is likely that you will receive the same response from a fourth implant surgeon.

Consider your alternative options for implants to secure your dentures. You will likely have better success with the healing process and the duration of your implants by selecting alternate treatment.

Second opinion for all on four from Clear Choice

By Second Opinion, All-on-4 Dental Implants

I know that dental implants are the best long term solution for my teeth but I just like to be sure that I am doing the right thing. I have read both positive and negative comments on ClearChoice so I want there for myself. I didn’t feel pressured by the sales person. I actually had a good experience. My only concern was that the dentist I saw recommended All on four for me which I really was not expecting at all. I had done my research in advance and I had pretty much decided that I didn’t want to go that route. I discussed my concerns about All on four with the dentist and he pretty much told me that I had nothing to worry about and that All on four was the best option for me. Maybe it was a mistake, but I asked if I could confer with a second ClearChoice dentist regarding his recommendation. He got on the defensive and said that any dentist anywhere would make the same recommendation and that there was no need for me to speak with anyone else. He wasn’t mean about it, but I could tell that he was somewhat offended by my question. Now I am wondering if I did the right thing. Your thoughts? Al B.

Al – You went into the Clear Choice office with reservations about All-on-4 implants, so your concern is very understandable. Even if you had no prior concerns, your options and the pros and cons of each should be thoroughly explained to you.

A second opinion is in order. Many patients and implant dentists have concerns about the reliability and durability of the All-on-4 process. An experienced implant dentist will be able to let you know if this treatment is really the best for you and explain why, if that’s the case.

Since you did advance research on the procedure, you are no doubt aware of the jawbone shrinkage that can occur in the posterior area, and that a problem with one of the implants can affect the others and require the replacement of all four implants.

A second opinion will ensure verify whether you have other options so that you can make a good decision for your treatment.

Received all on four implants and ready to smoke my cigars again.

By All-on-4 Dental Implants

Hello, I am a social cigar smoker. I am one of the committee members for a local cigar club. Our group also attends regional events. On 10/2 I received all on four implants. I quit cigar smoking three weeks before I got the implants. That was the best I could do. I am told that I have to continue without smoking through the healing process. We have another event coming up for the holidays and I want to be a participant not an onlooker. My dentist said that I need to give it more time before I start smoking again. I want an answer independent from my dentist. Is this really necessary? T.D.

T.D. – Smoking will affect the healing process of your All on 4 dental implants. It can even cause the implants to fail completely. During the two to six month healing process for the implants to become fully anchored in the bone, smoking should be avoided. There are several good reasons:

  • Slower healing – Smoking reduces the oxygen supply in your blood and slows the healing process. It will make it more difficult for your jawbone to heal around your implants, which can lead to implant failure.
  • Inflammation – When you smoke during the healing process, the area around the implants can become inflamed and pockets of pus can develop. The inflammation can interfere with the healing process or completely prevent healing.
  • Increased risk of infection – Smoking can increase the risk of infection in the area of the implants. Your body will have difficulty fighting the infection and the implants can fail.
  • Reduced effectiveness of medication – Smoking inhibits the effects of antibiotics prescribed to help fight infection. If an infection is not eliminated, the risk for losing the implants increases.

Refraining from smoking during the healing process is best to ensure that your implants are successful.

Process for getting teeth for All-on-4 implants?

By All-on-4 Dental Implants, Prosthodontist

Hi. I just want to know a little more about the process for getting the teeth for All-on-4 implants. Do I get teeth the same day as the surgery or do I have to wait? – Marshall

Marshall – After the All-on-4 dental implants are placed, new teeth are attached to them. The teeth will be fitted and adjusted. Your teeth will be stable and functional. Although they won’t be the permanent teeth you will receive, you will be able to leave the dental office with a full smile.

Over the next several months, you will return to your implant dentist or prosthodontist for progress checks. When the implants and your jawbone have fused together, impressions of your mouth are taken to create stronger, beautiful, permanent teeth.

The waiting period for permanent teeth ensures proper healing of your mouth. The temporary, or provisional teeth, place less stress on the implants. The permanent teeth be beautiful, will provide maximum function, and will be made to precisely fit your bite and healed gum tissue.

Review on All-on-4 Dental Implants from Clear Choice

By All-on-4 Dental Implants

I’ve had some serious problems with my teeth all through my life. The problems with my teeth required multiple root canal treatments and more crowns than I can recall. I lost many teeth over the years and I got to the point where I knew I had to do things differently. I had no question that I wanted dental implants.

I was impressed with the Clear Choice presentation, staff, and the doctor who was very informative about the All-on-4 procedure. The patient care was great and the surgery in April went smoothly. I’ve received follow-up phone calls from my dentist and when I go into the office for follow-up visits, I remain impressed with the quality of care. My only regret is not having done the procedure sooner. – Geoff

Geoff – Thank you for submitting your Clear Choice review. The All-on-4 procedure does require extensive skill and experience to ensure successful placement. It is good that you had a positive experience with Clear Choice.
